  2. US$384 million design and construction contract from SWCC, 400,000 m3/day, marine, civil and electromechanical works, completion expected in 2023. ACCIONA project page, Shuqaiq 4 SWRO.
  3. 400,000 m3/day EPC for SWCC on the Red Sea coast in the south west, serving 3.5 million inhabitants, replacing the previous facility.
  4. Smart Water Magazine, ACCIONA ramps up Shuqaiq 4 and Jubail 3B desalination plants to full production, 27 December 2023. smartwatermagazine.com.
  5. both plants ramping to full capacity during final testing, Shuqaiq 4 serving 3.5 million people in the south west.
  6. ACCIONA announced construction completion again in November 2025, so the 2023 date is treated as first full production.
  7. SHARAKAT, 7 Year Statement 2025-2031, March 2026, Table 27 (Aseer and Jazan supply sources). sharakat.com.sa.
  8. MENA Water Review major projects register and PPP pipeline — compiled from procurer publications, development-bank project pages and trade reporting; each record names its source.

lists this plant as the Shuqaiq RO1 replacement, on production since 2023 at 400,000 m3/day with retirement in 2058 and no Sharakat tendering footnote, and lists a SEPARATE Shuqaiq 4 under planning with commercial operation in 2029. The two share a name in common usage and a capacity, but not an owner, a structure or a date. ACCIONA's award release of December 2020 called this plant Shuqaiq SWRO 1; the Shuqaiq 4 label attached to it later. The Saudi Water Authority's own current name for it could not be confirmed, because swcc.gov.sa and swa.gov.sa both sit behind a human-verification wall.
